How To Learn Guitar FAST! 7 Steps Anyone Can Take

7 Steps To Learn Guitar Faster

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to learn guitar fast! These tips for beginner guitar players will help you focus on the important things, and teach you a process for learning songs on guitar quickly and more effectively.

Overview Of My Easy Method For Learning Songs Faster

STEP 1 – CHOOSE A SONG WITHIN REACH

2-Chord songs on Guitar you can start with (full listing can be found here)

  • SONGBIRD (OASIS)
  • BORN IN THE USA (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN)
  • WHAT I GOT (SUBLIME)
  • JAMBALAYA (HANK WILLIAMS)
  • FEELIN’ ALRIGHT (TRAFFIC/JOE COCKER)
  • TENNESSEE WHISKEY (CHRIS STAPLETON VERSION)
  • ELEANOR RIGBY (THE BEATLES)
  • EVERYDAY PEOPLE (SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE)
  • LIVELY UP YOURSELF (BOB MARLEY)
  • ACHY BREAKY HEART (BILLY RAY CYRUS)
  • STATE OF GRACE (TAYLOR SWIFT)
  • BREAK ON THROUGH (THE DOORS)
  • PAPERBACK WRITER (THE BEATLES)

STEP 3 – PRACTICE THE SONG USING DOWNSTROKES ONLY

I do this in ALL my tutorials, to ensure your “chord hand” is trained to make the motions and switch reliably. Simply use one of the 2-chord tutorial videos in the playlist above to go through this step with the song of your choice.

STEP 4 – DEVELOP INTERNAL RHYTHM

We do this by saying the rhythm of the pattern, just like chanting “we need a pitcher, not a belly-itcher!” at a baseball game!

STEP 5 – LEARN A PATTERN by ADDING STROKES

The strokes are how a guitarist activates the rhythm, and can be added after we “internalize” the rhythm via step 4.

STEP 6 – PATTERN + 2 CHORDS BACK AND FORTH

Before trying the tune, we would play the pattern while switching back-and-forth between our shapes.

STEP 7 – PATTERN + PROGRESSION = THE ENTIRE SONG!

The order might be simple, it might not be.. that’s why we work on the pattern with the shapes during step 6. Now it’s time to mix it up!

MOVING FORWARD

You can either repeat this entire process, starting with another easy 2-chord song. Or you can add a 3rd shape to your existing 2-chord song…

So, if you started with E and A, and learned Born In The USA, you could now add a D chord to that and choose from the following list of songs (there’s way more, but here’s a few to get started)

  • 3 Little Birds
  • Sweet Caroline
  • Lean On Me
  • Should I Stay
  • All Apologies
  • Spirit In The Sky
  • Crossroads
  • Johnny B Goode
