Hey everyone!

In today’s lesson I’m going to show you how to play “Light My Fire” by The Doors. This tune seems simple, but has a few twists and turns and will definitely provide some challenge to those of you looking to move past the basics.

If you need help with any of the stuff in this lesson, check out my resources:

The lesson begins with the verse, which uses 2 chord shapes: Gm and Em. Em is super easy, and for Gm, I show you a “cheater” way to play it, that’s a LOT easier than the usual barre chord version.

We practice the switches, then add some strumming and play it all together.

After that, we take a look at the chorus. This involves 5 new chord shapes: C, G, F, A, D. The only one of these that might give you some trouble is the F chord. I have an easy way to play that one, too!

By this point, all that’s left to learn is the solo section (another 2 chords: Gm and Am) and the Intro/Interlude.

It’s probably the toughest part of the song, involving many barre chords. I show you my trick for it, which involves tracking the roots of each chord, and using those as the basis for learning the whole thing.

All-in-all, there’s quite a bit of stuff here, but if you work on it slowly and carefully, you’ll certainly figure this one out!

All the best!
-James
