Welcome to my As It Was Guitar Tutorial, by Harry Styles. This easy song on guitar uses 4 basic chord shapes in a simple “circle of 5ths” style progression – on of the easiest chord progressions on guitar. It repeats over and over, which makes it a contender for easiest guitar song! We will also learn the melody that will give you an opportunity to work on your alternate picking chops.

The lesson begins with the chord shapes needed. There are four basic shapes: C, Am, D, G. We go over some switching tips and tricks to make it a lot smoother. If you need extra help don’t forget to check out those training videos from my free ebook – all the links are in there.

Once we’ve practiced the chord shapes using downstrokes only and counting along to get the right number of beats, we take a look at the strumming pattern. It’s the most common strumming pattern ever. We break it down and learn it bit by bit counting along so that we can build up our sense of rhythm.

With the chord progression and the strumming pattern, we have everything it takes to play through the song so that’s exactly what we do! We play through the song together, nice and slow, with a metronome.

Finally, all we have to do is learn the melody. Once again we break the melody down and we work on the rhythm as well as the alternate picking so that you can play this melody accurately.

We discuss how the whole song goes together so you can play this with a friend: one of you can play the chords the other one can play the melody.
