Unchained Melody Guitar Tutorial (Fingerstyle)

Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody

Unchained Melody Guitar Tutorial

Welcome to my Unchained Melody Guitar Tutorial by The Righteous Brothers. This is one of the easiest songs to fingerpick on guitar. The chords in the first 2 sections are VERY easy. There is one part with a funky chord (Eb) but I have an easy way to play it that will make this a lot more friendly to newer players. Lesson includes helpful visuals: chord diagrams, TAB and everything else you need to learn this classic oldie!

► “Barre Chords Made Easy” shows you a gradual path from the power chord (a simple barre chord anyone can play) to the real deal:

TABLE OF CONTENTS

  • 0:00 – INTRO
  • 1:59 – CHORDS + SWITCHING TIPS
  • 3:35 – SWITCHING PRACTICE
  • 5:01 – PICKING PATTERN
  • 8:43 – PLAY-ALONG (A-SECTION)
  • 10:30 – CHORUS (B-SECTION)
  • 13:04 – BRIDGE (C-SECTION)
  • 17:49 – THE ENDING
  • 19:19 – CHORD CHART (TAB)

The lesson begins with the chord shapes needed for the first section: C, Am, F and G. I teach you these chords along with an easy way to play F, and then give you some tips on how to make the switching more efficient. Then we practice switching using down strokes only keeping it nice and simple.

Following that, we take a look at the finger picking pattern which is one of the more basic ones: just ascending and descending. We work out the timing, since this song does have an interesting time signature of 12/8.

Next, I show you the chorus, followed by the bridge. These two sections require a few new chord shapes: Em, C7, Eb. That last one, Eb, is going to be a little bit tricky but we work on some strategies to make it much simpler and easier.

We go through the chord order for these sections, practicing them together, and then finally I show you how to assemble the entire song and we write out our own tab together.

I hope you enjoy this lesson – till next time!
