Away In A Manger Chords and Lyrics

[Verse 1]
 G G C G
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
    D D C G
The little Lord Jesus, lay down his sweet head.
    G G C G
The stars in the bright sky, looked down where he lay
    D G D G
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.
[Verse 2]
    G G C G
The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes;
    D D C G
But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes.
  G G C G
I love thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky,
    D G D G
And stay by my bedside, till morning is nigh.
[INSTRUMENTAL]
G G C G
D D C G
G G C G
G G D G
[Verse 3]
   G G C G
Be near me Lord Jesus, I ask thee to stay,
      D D C G
Close by me forever, and love me I pray.
      G G C G
Bless all the dear children, in thy tender care,
    D G D G
And fit us for heaven, to live with thee there.

CHORDS: G, C and D

STRUMMING PATTERN: D D Du

The lesson begins with the chords needed to play this easy xmas tune: G, C and D. We practice the chord switching/transitions and then play the progression slowly, using downstrokes only.

Next we learn the strumming pattern, which is very easy but is in 3/4 time. That means, we count to 3 instead of 4, but otherwise it’s very easy. We practice the strumming pattern by itself, and then add it to our progression.

That’s it! This one is very simple!

If you’d like to practice the entire song with me, there’s a full playthrough available on my Patreon page, where I play through the entire song, start to finish. More information on that here.

Take care and have fun practicing!
-James
