James Testani
James Testani is the founder of GoodGuitarist, where he helps everyday people learn guitar through simple, structured, and encouraging lessons.
With a background in music education, James focuses on real progress—teaching full songs and building confidence. His YouTube channel (580K+ subscribers, nearly 1M views/month) features clear, song-based tutorials, and his step-by-step courses take students from beginner to confident player. Off-camera, he enjoys family time and playing in his wife’s band, Willolux.
Student of the Month: Kendrick Dopp
Kendrick picked up the guitar again during the pandemic. As the lead singer of a Pretenders tribute band, figured it was time she started holding a guitar for real – not just for show. While looking up how to play “Folsom Prison,” she came across James’s YouTube lessons. His clear, encouraging teaching style immediately clicked.
She started with Learn Guitar Once and For All and has since taken several more courses. Now, Kendrick practices nearly every day, plays with her husband in the mornings, joins the community challenges, and even leads singalongs with kids at church—guitar in hand.
She’s working toward becoming a solid rhythm guitarist for her band, taking it one step at a time. We’re proud to feature her this month as someone who shows up, sticks with it, and keeps growing.
