Hey everyone!

In this lesson we’re going to show you how to play “New Year’s Day” by Taylor Swift on guitar.

If you need help with any of the chord shapes, throughout the lesson, I mention our eBook (which is free for all our subscribers). You can find it here: https://goodguitarist.com/learn-rhythm-guitar/

The lesson begins with the verse. Now, the rest of the song is just strumming simple chords, but this part requires some counting. We show you the chord shapes (C, Am, F) and then how to count them out. Eventually we add a bit of a bassline and we end up with something that sounds pretty darn close to the original (which is played on piano).

Following that, the rest is quite easy. We learn the G and Em chords, and then strum through them with a simple pattern: D R D Du (“Down Root Down Down-up”).

I hope you enjoy this lesson and I’ll see you soon!
James
