Play & Sing This Simple Melody To Improve Your Rhythm
30 Days of Guitar – Day 20
Welcome to Day 20 of 30 Days of Guitar! Today, we’re going to take a break from chords and learn a melody. Specifically, we’ll be learning the melody for “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King. By playing the melody and singing it at the same time, we’ll be able to build our rhythm and become better guitarists overall.
To get started, we’ll need to use guitar TAB. This is a special way of writing out music for the guitar that shows which frets and strings to play. The TAB for the “Stand By Me” melody is provided in the video linked above, starting at the 0:56 mark.
Once you’ve got the TAB in front of you, take it one note at a time. Play each note slowly and make sure you’re hitting the right string and fret. As you get more comfortable, start to speed up and try to play the melody in time with the song.
Now comes the tricky part: singing the melody while playing it on guitar. This can be difficult at first, but it’s an important skill to have. Start by humming the melody while you play it on guitar, and then gradually work up to singing the words. Take it slow and don’t worry if you make mistakes. With practice, you’ll get better and better.
Once you’ve got the hang of playing and singing the melody separately, it’s time to put it all together. Play the melody on guitar and sing along at the same time. This will help you build your rhythm and timing, and it’s a lot of fun too!
So there you have it! By learning the “Stand By Me” melody and singing it while playing it on guitar, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a better musician. Keep practicing and before you know it, you’ll be able to play and sing all sorts of songs on guitar.
