This week we have a fan request from Ceejay Cabida (& Jasmine Herance). They asked to learn “Versace On The Floor” by Bruno Mars.

I’m just gonna put it out there: this song uses a TON of chords. I counted 16. The good news… none of them are full barre chords! (although some use mini barres of 2 or 3 strings). I tried my best to keep this lesson concise and to show you the chords in a way that makes them easy to remember, but you definitely will have to put in some work in order to get them all under your fingers.

The strumming is pretty groovy, and not too difficult if you take your time with it and count it out.

One important thing to note is that I chose to ignore the key change at the end. This simplifies the song a lot (and saves us from learning 6 barre chords with somewhat tricky fingerings). When I played this for my wife she didn’t even notice (and she’s quite familiar with the recording) so I think it’ll be fine 😉

All-in-all, this is definitely on the intermediate side of things, but the cool thing is, all of these chord shapes will come in very handy when learning other songs, so use this as an opportunity to expand your chord vocabulary and learn a song at the same time!

I hope you enjoy the lesson and I’ll see you next week with another!
James
