Hey everyone! In today’s lesson I’m going to show you a very easy way to play “Believer” by Imagine Dragons. This is just a three-chord song – and if we put a capo on the first fret they are very simple chords. If you’re interested in learning the melody or how to play this song without a capo I have another tutorial where we do exactly that.. you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAZT5vb5EL0

Having trouble with the basics? You’ll want to check out my Beginner Guitar Course! More information here: https://goodguitarist.com/beginner-guitar-course/

And there’s my FREE eBOOK (which is free for all subscribers!) – You can use it to help you build a solid foundation: chords, switching, progressions, riffs, techniques… everything it takes to be a “good guitarist.” You can find it here: https://goodguitarist.com/learn-rhythm-guitar/

The lesson begins with the chord shapes: A, F and E. I show you some simple tricks that will make switching easy, and from there we practice strumming the chords in order using downstrokes only (so we can focus on the switches).

The strumming pattern for this song is quite simple. I think it’s in my ebook which you can find using the link above. We break it down into two parts and practice it a couple times before integrating it into the chord progression and playing the song.

At this point we can pretty much play through 95% of the song so all we have left to do are some finishing touches. There’s a small section where the chords are a little bit different (around 2 minutes and 40 seconds into the song) so I show you how to play through this – it’s very simple. We also talk about a rhythmic event that occurs at the very beginning of the chorus.

All in all, this one is quite simple and if you’d like to learn the melody don’t forget to check out my other tutorial for this song. Otherwise have fun practicing and I’ll see you next time.

Enjoy!
-James
