Hi everyone!

In this lesson I’ll show you how to play “Frosty The Snowman” – an absolute children’s Christmas classic! This one is quite simple.. it’s one of the easiest Christmas songs on guitar that I’ll be uploading this holiday season (not the last, though 🙂

This song is quite simple, so if you need to take a look at the basics, please check out our eBook, which is free to all our subscribers. It covers all the fundamentals of rhythm guitar and if you need any help with this lesson, that’s the first place you should go! You’ll find it here: https://goodguitarist.com/learn-rhythm-guitar/

Also, if you want to challenge yourself and learn that B minor chord that we talk about, you can learn more about barre chords here: https://goodguitarist.com/basic-barre-chords/

The lesson begins with the chord shapes. There are 5 of them and they’re all basic, open chords: G, C, D, Am, Em. We spend some time teaching you efficient ways to switch between them. This will help you get fast, clean chord switches. After that we practice playing them in order, using downstrokes only.

At this point, we’re ready to learn the strumming pattern. It’s the most common one used on guitar, and if you need help with it, please check out our eBook.

Before putting the chords and strumming together, we learn how to deal with a couple of trouble-spots, using a really simple “root-down” strumming pattern. This is probably the toughest part of the song, but is still really simple. At this point, we’re ready to put it ALL together.

Next we learn the following section of the song (“There must have been some magic…”) At this point, we can choose to learn a new chord (B minor.. which is a barre chord) or we can simply use D instead and keep it nice and simple. We play through the next section and the following one (“Thumpety thump thump”) and that’s the whole song!

I just want to mention that playing the melody during the intro (on the glockenspiel) probably took me longer than it did to film the entire lesson. Mad respect to all the percussion players out there who make it look easy 😛

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this lesson.
-James
